The data justice workshop methodology was elaborated by T-Lab 3 \u201cCitizen-led smartness\u201d leading partner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/futuribile.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Futuribile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to engage inhabitants in <\/span><b>developing a bottom-up dataset that will help design meanwhile activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The local partner <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/en\/nova\/institute-art-and-technology\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nova University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gathered for the occasion representatives of local associations, shops, restaurants and inhabitants. The methodology is reproducible in further urban regeneration contexts, especially in ones poorly characterised by official datasets such as demographic or economic ones.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-weight ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">Why is data justice relevant in the context of urban regeneration? Community organisations and informal leaders are living sensors of the local population\u2019s evolution, needs and challenges. This knowledge base needs to stay relevant in the regeneration process as much as \u201cofficial\u201d dataflows from technological sensors and public authorities\u2019 sources. Two layers are built with the help of participants, while the third is made of official data and is utilised as a touchstone to raise awareness about how data create narratives.&nbsp;<\/span><br><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">The first participatory layer focused on <\/span><b style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">characterising each of the three main neighbourhoods<\/b><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\"> from individuals\u2019 point of view: for instance, participants were asked to indicate the most representative things, the predominant natural element, or the most common off-the-record activities. The objective was to characterise Trafaria from the bottom-up and highlight emerging commonalities.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">For the second layer, groups were tasked with thinking about what the three areas have in common, starting from <\/span><b style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">what they believe makes Trafaria a community<\/b><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-font-size ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-letter-spacing ); word-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-f509bd9-word-spacing );\">, or can help build a sense of community. The building of this layer saw a significant interaction among the participants and open dialogue across tables. Some of the participants decided to share stories about the history of the place, and more personal and intimate stories.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a4c6ca9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"a4c6ca9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Lisbon-data-campfire-general.jpeg\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fcd97ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"fcd97ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.t-factor.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Lisbon-data-campfire-shared-identity-e1642759454103.jpeg\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-795b4ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"795b4ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><u>Key learnings:<\/u><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The probe led to <\/span><b>detect identitarian aspects of Trafaria beyond official data <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and beyond the expectations of T-Factor partners based in Lisbon: we discovered places we had no idea existed or mattered for people and understood from the participants\u2019 perspective what makes Trafaria unique.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>methodology is a valuable follow-up<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to individual interviews with local stakeholders, since it enhances the role that sharing and collectivising individual knowledge can have in placemaking.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dynamic format allowed to<\/span><b> collect many information<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and galvanise local stakeholders in less than 2 hours.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The participants <\/span><b>earned basic data awareness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and agreed on the fact that the \u201cofficial\u201d data reveal poor information about Trafaria.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">There is <b>a demand for citizen meetings<\/b><span> to talk about past and present issues regarding the territory.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How to value inhabitants\u2019 knowledge by building a bottom-up dataset The fortress of Trafaria, the T-Factor pilot at the outskirt of Lisbon, hosted in October the very first Data Campfire.
